Walla Walla families are being priced out. Melissa led the 2018 zoning reform to begin to fix the problem, but more remains to be done. She is committed to creating short-term rental reform and public-private partnerships to ensure everyone can afford a safe and stable home in our city.

Lasting Infrastructure:

Our roads, utilities, and public facilities can't keep lagging behind. Melissa will engage in smart, long-term investment and regional partnerships so that Walla Walla can responsibly and sustainably grow without burying our residents in new taxes.

Residents deserve open and honest government. Melissa is an experienced public servant and knows how to be accountable to the people she serves. She will enforce transparency laws, improve communication, and make city hall more accountable.

Melissa Shumake is a dedicated public servant running for Walla Walla City Council to continue delivering thoughtful solutions to our city's most pressing needs.

Melissa’s life reflects a deep commitment to making Walla Walla affordable and accessible. She has experienced everything from unstable rentals to homeownership under financial strain and understands what our families face. Her innovative work on zoning reform in 2018 is one of many policies she has already enacted to benefit our residents. This unique experience will allow her to hit the ground running on day one when she is elected to the city council.
